Temple History

The Lakshmi Narayana Perumal temple is purely dedicated to the supreme Lord Vishnu and his consort Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi (for wealth and wellbeing)  is sitting on his left lap. Veppur Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple might have been constructed during Late Pandyan Empire or Vijayanagra regime or Nayaka regime and no historical sculptures were found.  The one and only identification is the fish symbol engraved at the outer side of the “Garbhagriham” and inside of the Artha Mandapam.
Entirely damaged Maha mandapam and remains of the huge compound wall were the additional identifications for this centuries old temple. It is quite interesting that the only one Sanctum Sanctorum regained its original look when it was sand blasted during the renovation of the temple. Yes. The small Garbhagriham with the Artha mandapam  still speaking the stone architecture of the yester years.

The debris of the Mandapam and compound wall were removed and the temple area was cleaned by the devotees. With the grace of Sri Lakshmi Narayana perumal, the vimanam was reconstructed and Maha samprokshanam was held on 19th January 2012 by Vedic Vaishnava scholars.

The journey of renovation continues by Acquiring the occupied areas of the Temple and a compound was built in 2016. The three level 26 feet  Rajagopuram was built using the same stone pillars of the old mandapam in 2017. Now the temple is gaining a new shape with additional shrines for Periyathriuvadi (Sri Garudazwar), Thimbikkaiazwar (Sri Vinayagar), Sri Hanuman and Shri Hariharaputran. A plan to establish a dwajasthambam  and a salaram with sevaral pillars around the temple is underway.

The rajagopuram and vimanam are beautifully sculptured and painted in an excellent manner. The Rajagopuram has the sculptures of  10 Avatars of Sri Mahavishnu.
